Minutes from the AGM 2025

Welcome & Introductions


The meeting began at 7:45pm on Monday 31st March 2025 at St Oswald's Church with a formal welcome from Brij Kalia, the Chair of the Friends of Norbury Park (FoNP).

Agenda Item 1 - Approval of minutes from the 2024 AGM


The minutes of the meeting from the previous AGM were agreed unanimously.

Agenda Item 2 - Chairs Report 2024


The following progress and activities were reported to the meeting by the Chair:


  • Generally a successful year – 3 successful events and good community links.
  • Council – improved relationship generally. Our councillors, Appu Srinivasan and Alisa Fleming, have helped enormously.
  • Ongoing issues re. rough sleepers and anti-social behaviour, particularly at Station entrance.
  • Council is improving the main road/path through the park – about 10% completed – to be continued in May.
  • Alice Owusu-Evans, Community and Conservation Team Leader with Croydon Council, is proving a positive link with regard to developing the meadow, the woodland and various planting.
  • 15 trees recently planted by volunteers – provided by local resident Gabriele.
  • Litter picking - individuals and Saturday 10a.m group are making a real difference.
  • Water trough area recently cleaned – looking good.
  • 2 Well-Being walks arranged – need to be further publicised.
  • Walk and Talk weekly walks beginning at Norbury Station and going through the park to Streatham Common – Thursdays 1.30pm.
  • ‘Growing Beans’ Nursery has set up and maintained two lovely floral planters by the Station Entrance. Makes a pleasing entrance area.
  • 2 Newsletters published on website.
  • Instagram links up with the Website and Facebook - Lisa has added Angela Norman’s fascinating History of Norbury Park.
  • Certificates to be created, by Lisa, and given to young people helping in the park, particularly with litter and general maintenance.


Agenda Item 3 - Treasurers Report & approval of 2023 accounts 


The Treasurer, Lisa Patient,  presented the Financial Report.


  • Donated income was £536.
  • Expenditure was £277


  • Money in bank is £3,084.


The accounts were approved.


  • In 2024 the Friends's activities were insured by Croydon Council representing a saving of £180
  • We now have a credit card enabling cash to be banked at the Post Office.
  • £11.80 of money in bank is restricted for the Friends of Maggie’s Garden


Agenda Item 4 - Liaison and Communication Report


Jenni Rodgers, Liaison and Communications Officer, presented a report.


  • Thank you to Friends for litter picking and regular work on Maggie’s Garden.
  • New summer Litter Picking Group time: 5pm Thursdays beginning on April 10th.
  • Easter Sunday – 20.4.25 - Easter Egg Hunt through Nature Trail plus Plant Sale outside Jenni’s house.
  • Thanks to Mrs Patel for various gifts.
  • Jenni recommended the Croydon Park.s/Outdoor Spaces celebration day- celebrating 30+ outdoor spaces: Saturday 7th June at the Central Library.
  • August Music event to take place in the park – as per last year. A petition to be sent regarding the noise and litter and the need for these to be closely monitored


Agenda item 5 - Election of Officers & Committee Members

Co-opted member – Appu 

Jenni acts as Communications and Liaison Officer for the Friends.


Agenda Item 6 - Appointment of Auditor


 Paul Marchant was Appointed Auditor (TBC)


Agenda Item 7 - Action Plan Update 


Lisa went through the 6 Goals. These were initially put together following a request in 2023 by Mayor Perry when he asked for an Action Plan, and have been updated. The Action Plan can be downloaded here.


These goals illustrate the main needs for the park and the community it serves.


Agenda Item 8 - Future Park Projects and Events


  • 20.4.25 Easter Egg Hunt and Plant Sale
  • 17.5.25 Big Litter Pick
  • 17.8.25 Summer Picnic
  • 28.9.25 Big Bulb Planting Session
  • 7.12.25 Xmas event


Agenda Item 9 - Any Other Business 


  • Thank you to Jenni for hosting the committee meetings at her home.
  • Notice Board vandalised – may have been targeted as same posters ripped down from the two notice boards. £250.00 to replace.
  • £10 voluntary membership donation seems to be acceptable.
  • Norbury Park is now part of ‘Social Prescribing’ health advice recommended by local GPs.
  • Safety for Women and Girls – the clearing of undergrowth is making the park more open and accessible / Alisa suggested that lighting would make the park safer too. To consider this in developing our goals.
  • The meeting closed at 9pm
