Maggie's Garden is a community project which transformed a neglected, littered and unsightly space on Green Lane into a beautifully designed public garden. The project raised over £4000 in fundraising and volunteers worked tirelessly over 8 months to complete it. A small team of volunteers, the Friends of Maggies Garden now maintain the garden. You can visit Maggie's Garden on the junction of Strathbrook Road and Green Lane ///gloves.birds.almost .
The garden was designed by local landscape gardener Margaret Woznica, and is best viewed from the pavement. It provides passers-by and those using the 250 bus with a tranquil, beautiful area to admire, in what used to be a flytipped eyesore.
The area is dedicated to the late Cllr Maggie Mansell, a much loved ex-Croydon mayor and councillor for Norbury for over 25 years. Maggie's energy and passion for public duty was second to none, and her unexpected passing in 2019 left a huge hole in so many lives. This garden is in celebration of her legacy in Norbury.
Deputy Civic Mayor, Croydon's Executive Mayor and Sir Trevor McDonald officially opened the garden in September 2023 with over 100 people attending the ceremony.
The garden is situated on Green Lane near the junction with Strathbrook Road, next to the Hermitage Lane bus stop. Click here to open in Google Maps.
